Foley, AL – Baldwin Health provided care to thousands of area residents in 2024, with more than 448,000 patient encounters across its hospital, network of physician clinics and other outpatient sites of care. In addition to delivering safe, quality, compassionate healthcare, the health system is helping those in need, supporting charitable organizations and contributing to the area economy. In its most recent Community Benefit Report, Baldwin Health impact totaled an estimated $358 million in 2024.
Baldwin Health’s emergency room provides lifesaving, medically necessary care at more than 57,000 patient encounters each year, treating all patients regardless of their ability to pay. In 2024, Baldwin Health provided almost $90 million in charity and uncompensated care and provided resources to help patients in need secure medications and medical support devices.
The health system and its employees also support local organizations that make a difference, especially those addressing social determinants of health. Through service projects such as the annual Jars of Love Peanut Butter Drive for Ecumenical Ministries and Feeding the Gulf Coast and contributions to charitable organizations such as Baldwin County Child Advocacy Center, Anchor Cross Cancer Foundation, and Jennifer Claire Moore Foundation, Baldwin Health gives back to the community throughout the year.
“Our work to grow and enhance the medical services we provide is ongoing, as we continuously improve our safety and quality and support access to healthcare for our community,” said Margaret Roley, chief executive officer of Baldwin Health. “From providing care to our most vulnerable residents to supporting local charitable organizations, we are proud to make an impact on the health, well-being and quality of life in Baldwin County.”
To enhance patient care and expand healthcare access, Baldiwn Health is investing in medical services, facilities and technologies. The year saw completion of a $154 million expansion, with the opening of the new five-story, nearly 200,000-square-foot facility with a dedicated outpatient surgery center, an advanced Women’s & Children’s Unit with specialized labor and postpartum care, and a Level II nursery. Capacity of the intensive care unit has been doubled and inpatient beds have been added to care for growing numbers of patients. New operating suites and surgical technologies support surgical precision and patient safety, and promote positive outcomes for patients.
The hospital also took steps to strengthen its orthopedic program, specializing in total joint replacement and comprehensive diagnostic treatments for various musculoskeletal conditions. With a team of 12 orthopedic surgeons, Baldwin Health offers advanced care, including robotic-assisted total joint replacement which enhances precision and patient outcomes.
Baldwin Health reintroduced pulmonary vein isolation ablation in 2024, giving patients access to this advanced treatment for atrial fibrillation without needing to travel far from home.
“We are strategically applying our resources to help area residents have access to the care they need close to home,” said Roley. “These investments, along with our outstanding medical staff and employees, support our delivery of high quality medical care and services for a positive patient experience.”
Baldwin Health is one of the community’s larger employers with a payroll of more than $91 million. Support for the future healthcare workforce includes training the next generation of medical professionals through strong relationships with local nursing programs and the family medicine residency program, which is training more than 30 residents. In addition to supporting the local economy through job creation, Baldwin Health paid more than $12 million in taxes in 2024, monies that support local infrastructure and civic resources.
