12/6/2022
South Baldwin Regional Medical Center announced that Shay Johnson, R.N., has been selected to receive its Nursing Excellence Award.
This peer-nominated award, given in recognition of the critical role nurses play in treating our patients, was open to qualifying RNs and LPNs working in a direct patient care position who consistently demonstrate characteristics synonymous with nursing excellence.
Shay was chosen for her outstanding contributions in the areas of outstanding patient care, compassion, respect from students and colleagues, resilience, and dedication to not only her patients, but her team, as she is always willing to lend a helping hand. Not only does Shay have great rapport with her colleagues and students, but with physicians as well.
“South Baldwin Regional Medical Center is fortunate to have many outstanding nurses like Shay among its ranks. Nurses who deliver exemplary care, compassion and service, who understand the importance of teamwork and mentoring others, who can lead in times of crises, and who are true champions of promoting healthcare in our community,” said Karen Chastang, chief nursing officer of South Baldwin Regional Medical Center. “With an ongoing focus this year on the selfless efforts of healthcare professionals like Shay, we are pleased to acknowledge the important contributions of our nursing professionals.
Shay Johnson joined South Baldwin Regional Medical Center in February of 2014 as a med-surg nurse in West Wing and currently works as a critical care nurse.
In addition to receiving the Nursing Excellence Award itself, Shay received a cash prize and a copy of “Shining the Light on All the Right” by Mark and Bonnie Barnes, co-founders of The DAISY Foundation, an international movement created to recognize and express gratitude for extraordinary nursing.
