South Baldwin Regional Medical Center Adds 3D Mammography in Gulf Shores
2/13/2020
Foley, AL – South Baldwin Regional Medical Center has added a second breast tomosynthesis, commonly called 3D mammography, for breast cancer screening in Gulf Shores, AL. Our breast tomosynthesis scan produces a high-definition, three-dimensional view of the breast tissue that helps detect breast cancer in its earliest stages, while it is easier to treat and more curable.
South Baldwin Medical Group Urgent Care & Imaging Center in Gulf Shores has obtained the second new 3D Mammography unit. Residents now have the convenience of scheduling their 3D mammogram at either The Women’s Imaging Center in Foley or the Imaging Center in Gulf Shores.
Though the 3D mammogram is performed in the same way as traditional mammography, this type of mammography is beneficial for women with dense breast tissue because it provides a clearer picture for radiologists, which reduces the risk of a false positive. The new system features a proprietary curved paddle that mirrors the shape of a woman’s breast to reduce pinching and allow better distribution of force over the entire breast to improve the patient’s experience. This latest innovation is part of South Baldwin Regional Medical Center’s steadfast commitment to superior breast cancer detection and improved breast health for all women.
“These new technologies enable us to improve the experience for our patients by providing them with the industry’s fastest and most comfortable mammogram, but more importantly, it allows us to do so while providing high quality 3D images. This gives our local radiologists and other physicians the best tools for providing accurate reporting and treatment,” said Tammy Homan, director of radiology at South Baldwin Regional Medical Center.
