South Baldwin Regional Medical Center Announces New Residency Program
4/9/2018
(Foley, AL – April 9, 2018) – South Baldwin Regional Medical Center has received approval to establish a new family medicine residency program. The first class of resident physicians will enter the program July 2018.
“This is an exciting time for South Baldwin Regional Medical Center as we continue to grow the services we offer our patients and our community,” said Daniel McKinney, Chief Executive Officer. “Introducing this new residency program allows us to serve another population – up and coming physicians. We’re honored to have the opportunity to train these physicians, allowing them to contribute to our community as well.”
The new family medicine program, approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), is a three-year program, which will offer eight residents in the first year with plans to accommodate up to eight each year thereafter for a total of 24 when filled. Focusing on general family medicine, the program’s goal is to provide a well-rounded experience for physician residents who want to pursue a career as a community-based family medicine physician.
Timothy Mott, MD, FAAFP, Michael Linder, MD and Cary Ostergaard, MD have designed the new family medicine residency program. While all three physicians will serve as core faculty, Mott will also serve as the Program Director.
“With the ever-increasing need for primary care across the country, we are privileged to help shape the next generation of family physicians,” stated Dr. Mott. “We experienced an amazingly successful recruitment and selection of our inaugural class through the national residency match. Bringing this young, talented group of new physicians into our new clinic and the setting of South Baldwin Regional Medical Center with its robust learning opportunities and talented staff is truly exhilarating.”
