South Baldwin Regional Medical Center is a Cornerstone of Baldwin County
4/24/2023
The skilled and compassionate hands of physicians, nurses and other team members of South Baldwin Regional Medical Center support the health and well-being of patients. South Baldwin Regional Medical Center is a cornerstone of the community and contributes to the economic health of the region as a major employer and tax-payer and through resources invested to expand and enhance the medical services available close to home. The overall impact is significant and totaled more than $193 million in 2022.
Care was provided at more than 365,000 patient encounters, including more than 50,000 emergency department visits, 7,000 inpatient admissions and more than 12,000 surgeries. 295,000 patients received care across the South Baldwin Medical Group physician clinics, which include general surgeons, imaging centers, primary and walk-in care, obstetrics and gynecology, neurology and pulmonology. Joy was delivered to local families with the birth of 600 babies.
“We help people get well and live healthier by providing quality care for patients,” said Margaret Roley, chief executive officer for South Baldwin Regional Medical Center. “It is a privilege to help people secure the medical care they need. I am grateful for this dedicated team of clinicians and caregivers here in Baldwin County who are making a real difference each and every day.”
South Baldwin Regional Medical Center applies its resources to medical services, facilities and technologies that are important to patients. This includes a significant hospital expansion and modernization project that is set to add new operating rooms, a larger intensive care unit and increased bed capacity. Access has been enhanced with the opening of primary care and walk-in clinics in Gulf Shores, Orange Beach and Fairhope. Last year, capital improvements totaling more than $19 million were made for dialysis, radiology, OR and laboratory equipment, as well as the new clinic locations added to the network.
South Baldwin Regional Medical Center also gives back to the broader Baldwin County region by providing over $86 million in charity and uncompensated care for the community’s most vulnerable. And the payment of $7 million in property, sales and GRT taxes helps support civic resources and services.
The hospital’s payroll ripples across the local economy as employees buy goods and services. Last year the hospital added enhanced benefits to help team members achieve their personal and professional goals, including assistance with student loan repayments, reimbursement of licensure and certification expenses, as well as tuition reimbursement.
CEO Roley continued, “The vital care we provide is only one part of the broad impact we have. We are a cornerstone of this community and we are committed to doing all we can to provide excellent healthcare services and to making Baldwin County a healthier, better community for all.”
