Karen Chastang has been appointed chief nursing officer of South Baldwin Regional Medical Center. Chastang has served as Interim CNO at South Baldwin Regional Medical Center since January of this year.
As a nurse director with more than 23 years’ experience in the healthcare industry, she was previously responsible for overseeing 15 patient beds and 25 staff members in SBRMC’s orthopedic unit. Chastang also oversaw the development of South Baldwin Regional Medical Center’s total joint replacement and fracture program, which led to the hospital being the first in the area to offer the latest technology in robotic-arm assisted joint replacement procedures.
A native of Alabama, Chastang earned her associate degree in nursing from Northeast Alabama Community College after receiving her bachelor’s degree in education from the University of West Alabama.
According to Margaret Roley, CEO of South Baldwin Regional Medical Center, “Over the past few months, Karen has demonstrated her innate leadership skills, along with her ability to develop and cultivate strong teams. I am confident she will continue to push the standard and demand sustainability in a way that will continue to drive high-quality care for our patients.”
South Baldwin Regional Medical Center recently received an ‘A’ Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade for the sixth consecutive year, and is the only ‘A’ hospital in Baldwin County.
