South Baldwin Regional Medical Center Names First Chief Residents
3/6/2020
(Foley, AL – March 6, 2020) – South Baldwin Regional Medical Center Family Medicine Residency Program has announced that Liza Hamrick, D.O., and Ashley Hunter, M.D., have been named the 2019-2020 chief residents, first chief residents of the program. Chief residents serve in a leadership role as liaisons between the program residents and faculty. They also serve as role models, providing educational leadership, support and advocacy.
“Getting selected as chief resident is a great honor,” said Timothy Mott, M.D., FAAFP, program director. “The chiefs represent all twenty-four physician residents in the program and therefore have garnished unwavering support of their peers to further improve patient care and residency education across so many areas of South Baldwin Regional Medical Center. They are in the position to enhance yet again the many successes that this new program has quickly achieved.”
Dr. Hamrick is a graduate of the Alabama College of Osteopathic Medicine in Dothan, AL, and Dr. Hunter completed her medical doctorate degree at St. James School of Medicine in Park Ridge, IL. Both physicians are excited to serve as chief residents and look forward to the opportunity to lead and support the other residents in the program.
In July 2018, South Baldwin Regional Medical Center launched the first family medicine residency program in Baldwin County. The first class of resident physicians entered the program July 2018 and the second class of family medicine residents have joined July 2019.
Now in its second year, the family medicine residency program, approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), is a three-year program with anticipation to fill its full complement of 24 resident physician slots in the summer of 2020. Focusing on full-scope general family medicine, the program’s goal is to provide a well-rounded experience for physician residents who want to pursue a career as a community-based family medicine physician.
